When it comes to skincare, there’s not much argument as to whether men or women put more effort in. Typically, women are more likely to spend the time and effort that it takes to find the right products and apply them once or twice a day. But, there’s absolutely no reason why men can’t take advantage of all the wonderful products that are out there! Especially when so many of them (like ours) smell absolutely divine – in a manly way.
We know that most men like to take a quick shower, shave, comb their hair, and head out the door. We’re here to (hopefully) convince you to start giving your skin a little bit of much-deserved love and attention to keep you men looking fresh and youthful for years to come!
Here are 4 skincare tips for men:
Choose a facial cleanser over soap
It’s no secret that men love their 3-in-1 shower gels, but the ingredients really are too harsh to be used on your face. Soap works very well at removing oil and dirt on your body, but when applied to your face, it can work too well.
Soap will strip the natural oils that your face needs to stay hydrated and soft. Instead, pick up a cleanser that is specifically formulated for your face. Cleansers gently wash away excess oil and dirt without over drying or aggravating the skin.
Moisturizer works wonders
Every time you wash your face or step out of a hot shower, you should be moisturizing your face and body.
Facial moisturizer helps to prevent fine lines and wrinkles from appearing early on and keeps your skin from drying out and appearing dull. A great skincare tip for men that work outside in the sun is to use a moisturizer that contains SPF 30 or higher. This will protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun.
Don’t forget about body lotion, too! Scentsational Soaps has a luxurious spray lotion for men, that is easy to apply daily and smells great!
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate
Start off by exfoliating one or two times a week with a gentle facial exfoliator. Exfoliating helps to get rid of dead skin cells that can clog pores and leave your skin looking dry and dull. When you exfoliate, you also reduce your chances of getting ingrown hairs from shaving or waxing your face.
Don’t exfoliate too often! If you have sensitive skin, too much exfoliation can leave your skin dry and irritated. Pay attention to what your skin is telling you and always moisturize after each time you exfoliate.
Stay hydrated
The easiest and most cost-effective skincare tip for men is to make sure you’re drinking plenty of water.
To calculate how much water you should be drinking, use this rule of thumb: Multiply your weight by .67 (two-thirds). This will give you how many ounces you should drink daily! If you plan on working out, add 12 ounces for every 30 minutes of exercise.
